APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN: PATRICK MAGEE

Power Roll, the leading flexible solar energy solutions provider, today announces that it has appointed Patrick Magee as Chairman of the Company.

Patrick was appointed to the Board in August 2023 and brings with him significant experience and expertise of the industrial and renewable energy sectors during his time as a banker at JP Morgan Cazenove and scale-up along with private equity sectors while at the British Business Bank.

His career spans 30 years, with 10 years working on the foundation and development of the British Business Bank, where he became Chief Commercial Officer. The British Business Bank is the British state-owned economic development bank, whose purpose is to increase the supply of finance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Prior to this Patrick had an extensive career at JP Morgan Cazenove where he was a Managing Director of Corporate Finance with a significant portion of his career spent advising industrial, renewable and energy companies.

Since 2022 Patrick has been working as a Non-Executive director across a range of sectors. Patrick currently sits on the Boards of Allica Bank, Edge Future Capital and the International Biotechnology Trust. Patrick is also a non-executive member of the Northern Ireland Civil Service Board and a member of the investment committee at Queen’s University, Belfast.

The appointment comes following the completion of a £4.3m funding round to accelerate the product development of our microgroove technology, and the announcement of a partnership with global packaging solutions firm Amcor to collaborate as we revolutionise solar-powered energy by developing a lightweight solar photovoltaic film that can deliver a low-cost alternative to silicon solar panels.

Commenting on the appointment, Neil Spann, Chief Executive of Power Roll said:

“We would like firstly to thank Drew for his significant contribution to the Power Roll business and wish him well for the future. Patrick is bringing to the Chair role significant experience of board roles both within the private and public sectors, with expertise in delivering organic growth and transactions. His deep experience of City and Government practices comes at an important time for Power Roll as it looks to gear up on its global commercialisation journey. 2025 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year as we work towards setting up a commercial scale factory here in the North East harnessing the learnings from our existing pilot plant.”

Patrick added:

“I am delighted to be taking on this role and picking up from the excellent progress Drew has made. Power Roll is a great British innovation success story that has built strong foundations and is forming the partnerships, including with Amcor, to enable the business to bring a product to market that rethinks how we generate renewable electricity and importantly where we do it. With one in three commercial rooftops today not being able to handle the weight of traditional solar panels this is equivalent to over 130 million m² in the UK. Power Roll’s innovative film-material provides a lightweight and flexible solution, which can be used on a variety of off grid spaces and we are focused on completing our product development before being able to relocate to a factory that will help us scale to capitalize on the opportunity.”
