A low-cost and lightweight solar-panel maker has triumphed in a contest to find the next big idea in energy efficiency.
Big Solar’s flexible photovoltaic (PV) sheets are light enough to attach to the side of buildings as well as the roof. The company beat four others in ENGIE UK’s Big Pitch, winning a £10,000 cash prize and an introduction to the French energy company’s new ventures investment fund.
“The way the world generates and consumes energy is going through an unprecedented transformation,” said ENGIE UK’s Wilfrid Petrie.
The other finalists were North London appliance supplier Homie, Guildford-based Flywheel Energy Storage, Upside and The Great Outdoor Gym Company. The Evening Standard has been running a series of Clean London reports. On June 30 it will host a green debate chaired by presenter Kirsty Wark.
